It bears note that David Bowie released 2 of them, then the 80s happened, then the 1. Outside and Earthling albums happened.

Do you consider that a good thing or a bad thing? 1.Outside is my favorite album. ^_^

It is a good thing- and evidence against the thesis.

I consider them both damn fine albums- and they're also both evidence that putting out a greatest hits album doesn't necessarily mean it's all over, since they both came out after two greatest hits compilations (the two RCA changesonebowie and changestwobowie ones, and then the Rykodisc greatest hits one).
According to the Bowie, he said if he didn't bother writing a new album on the road this last year, he'd be digging into the 1.Outside tapes (40 hours of him and Eno fucking around in the studio) like he'd always meant to and looking for the next album, which is supposed to be named 2.Contaminated if memory serves...

God I hope so! I remember hearing about Contaminated a long while back. Every time I listen to Outside I hear something new in it.

Yeah, but Bowie doesn't count. He's way above and beyond the normal artists that throw in the towel with a Greatest Hits album.

Depends who it is, really. I bought our Mazza's one purely because I wanted all the videos in less-than-awful quality. But we'll see where he goes from here.

Schadenfreude indeed. I passionately await the moment Britney Spears is all washed up.

Depends on the band, really.

I said yeah, but then I did this while listening to the latest Prodigy album. Then, after a moment, I realised they never brought out a "greatest hits" and all was right with the world.

The lead singer for "Girls" has a nice mouth. Check the The Video (http://www.theprodigy.com/)
