I think the Christmas holiday season has to be the most hateful time of the year. It brings out the viciousness in everyone. People are rude, insulting, inconsiderate and impatient, moreso than the rest of the year. I've got to buy things for the family, and screw everyone else. And even that seems to be mostly ceremony, like filling a quota. Has it always been like this and I was just too entranced to notice?

It's always been like that. Some years it is worse than others. This year is not too bad. Last year was awful. (As far as working retail and having to deal with the Xmas shopping public)

I was guilty of that myself with a coworker today, making a series of rapidfire complaints and ignoring him while I looked into a problem he'd asked for help with. I'd blame the spinach dip at the year-end party earlier in the afternoon, but I know better.

I think people have pretty much always been sour to eachother, regardless of the day, age, and season. We only notice it nowadays since so many people are now sensitive to the failings of American culture ("omg weve lost teh spirit of chrismas!!!1") and we're being extra-careful to make sure our fellow people-things are being as sweet, generous and good-natured as we've all been raised to be during the holidays.

So, as long as I keep in mind that people are pills all year long, it doesn't get to me.

I believe that people are always the same during the entire year, but because we all don't have a dead-line you only get a few hateful bunch once in a while. I don't enjoy being in a mall or anywhere that is having big sales during the holidays. Parents push and shove to make sure they get their kid the gift they promised. If not, the kid will have a horrible Christmas and they will feel like bad parents because they can't spoil their kids rotten with a toy that will break in two hours.

In a cheap motel room in Kansas last night I watched part of a show about X-Mas. This detailed how England attempted to outlaw X-mas celebration a few hundred years ago because the rude behavior of revelers was downright anti-Xtian and so on... I switched to Charlie Rose interviewing Nigella Lawson & fell asleep quite happily.

I certainly have had my share of assholes on holiday binges either alcohol+ or shopping, who apparently couldn't interact with others without showing their worst behavior.

My personal view is: "Fuck X-Mas!" "It's a holiday for other people!"
