Dec. 1st, 2004 12:51 amFalluja 'a horror' after U.S.-led offensive (CNN)
A weirdly frank and unflattering story about the US assault on Falluja. It makes me think of the response to the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, where we leveled the city of Hue in order to 'save' it; except that Tet was a massive coordinated attack by NLF ('Viet Cong') forces against supposedly secure locations, including the US embassy in Saigon. In this case, we had some Iraqi insurgents who we figured would interfere with the timetable of scheduled elections, so we just destroyed Falluja to get them. But, you know, at least all those dead civilians are now free to vote in a fair and democratic election.
