President Bush lies shamelessly* (CNN)

I quote:

President Bush, in a high-profile address on Thursday, said the global fight against terrorism must continue in Iraq because it is where terrorists are centering their war on humanity. [...] "We're not facing a set of grievances" that can be negotiated, Bush said.

I call bullshit. Al-Qaeda has consistently stated its reasons for carrying out acts of terrorism; I can list them. 1) The stationing of US troops in the Persian Gulf, 2) the treatment of the Palestinians by Israel with tacit US approval, 3) the sanctions against Iraq which killed, it was estimated in the mid-90s, 500,000 children alone due to inadequate access to medical treatment. (One could also add 4), US co-opting the Afghan resistance to the 1980s Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, flooding the country with arms, then leaving the country to twist in the wind once the Soviets withdrew; but since the guys we (read: Holy Reagan) supported ultimately became al-Qaeda, neither they nor the US are liable to bring up this point.)

Whether or not you want to address (or 'appease') these issues and undercut terrorist organizations by removing their popular support, that's your own nevermind, but saying the terrorists have issued no grievances is complete horseshit. Next he'll be saying there was no 9-11 attack.

And incidentally, I happen to resent Bush's choice of words. Al-Qaeda only wants to destroy America, and maybe the Westernized world. I'm the one who threatens humanity... ME, Ashtoreth Hostility, not al-Qaeda, and I don't appreciate you attributing it to them just so you can score political points, Mr. President. Say it with me. Ashy = supervillain; Osama = NOT supervillain. Now go back to playing your guitar.
