an open letter to Al Franken

Hey, Al,

Loved your new book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. Great fun, lots of laughs. But don't you think you're being a little rough on Bill O'Reilly over that Peabody Award thing? I mean, sure he got hostile and basically tried to buy you off when you pointed out his error, but have you considered the possibility that he's not trying to carry out deception? That he isn't trying to conceal the fact that his old tabloid program got beaten out by a puppet show? Why, maybe he's just senile! I know I'd be a little defensive about that. Or a brain tumor. Maybe his days are a whirl of meaningless sensory input and he wanders through the world bewildered and afraid of the voices in his head, and under such conditions is unable to tell a Peabody from a Peanut Buster Parfait. You know, like Mickey Rooney in 'Bill.' Or Mickey Rooney in anything he's done. Anyway, my point is, don't be so quick to attribute to malice what can be explained by an impending embolism. That's all I wanted to say. Thanks.
