unintentional accuracy

"...from Central America to Central Europe and beyond, people remember -- in the dark days when the forces of tyranny seemed on the rise, Jesse Helms took their side." --President Bush (from here)

Truly a fitting epitaph. Georgie is like a stopped clock that can't help being right twice a day, no matter how he tries.

That was much too funny. :D

Now that William F. Buckley AND Jesse Helms are dead, is it safe to be an old-fashioned liberal Republican again?

Like Teddy Roosevelt? BULLY, suh, bully!

Buckley (IIRC) wanted to end the War on Drugs and Helms wanted to turn it into a Total War on Everything Weird.

Yes, Buckley DID want to end the War on Drugs. He devoted an entire late 90's edition of National Review to legalizing drugs and why it should be done. I was still subscribing to NR at the time and it was like, woah. :D

But other than that, he was against the kind of Rockefeller Republicans who I love, like John Chafee and his son.

His mouth reminds me of a guy playing tee ball blindfolded and dizzy. Dangerous to be close to, but eventually one swing will hit the ball
